Darrell Hinson

Darrell Hinson is a trial attorney who concentrates his practice on the representation of people and businesses in insurance bad faith and coverage disputes. He also represents individuals and families affected by serious personal injury and wrongful death in Georgia and Florida.

Darrell has more than three decades of experience in personal injury and insurance law, including handling cases involving trucking and commercial motor vehicle crashes, automobile collisions, pedestrian accidents, fires, and unsafe premises. His insurance coverage and bad faith experience is particularly helpful in navigating the complex insurance issues that often arise in catastrophic personal injury and wrongful death cases.

In 2023, Darrell served as second-chair trial attorney on the team that obtained a $140,000,000 jury verdict in an apartment fire wrongful death case in the State Court of DeKalb County, Georgia. Prior to joining Slappey & Sadd, he spent over 15 years working with two leading plaintiff’s trial firms in Georgia and Florida, where he concentrated on insurance bad faith and catastrophic personal injury litigation.

Before shifting the focus of his practice to representing plaintiffs, Darrell served as a corporate claims attorney for one of the nation’s largest property and casualty insurance companies, where he managed litigation throughout Georgia involving catastrophic injuries, wrongful death, and punitive damages. He was also extensively involved in advising and training the claims organization on insurance coverage matters. Darrell began his legal career representing insurance companies and their policyholders in civil trial litigation in Georgia and Florida courts.

Darrell is admitted to practice in all Georgia and Florida trial and appellate courts, the U.S. District Courts for the Northern and Middle Districts of Georgia, the U.S. District Courts for the Northern and Middle Districts of Florida, and the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals. He is a member of the State Bar of Georgia, the Florida Bar, and the Oregon State Bar.

Darrell is a member of the DeKalb County Bar Association, the Georgia Trial Lawyers Association, and the Lawyers Club of Atlanta. He is a frequent speaker at continuing legal education seminars, where he regularly presents on insurance coverage and bad faith topics.

Darrell has been recognized in The Best Lawyers in America™ in Insurance Law and Personal Injury Litigation – Plaintiffs (2025–26) and selected to Georgia Super Lawyers in personal injury and insurance coverage (2024–26).

Darrell graduated with a B.S. in Business Administration, with high honors, from the University of Florida in 1992, and earned his J.D., with honors, from the Florida State University College of Law in 1995.

Raised in North Central Florida, Darrell has called Atlanta home for nearly three decades. He and his wife, Kimberley, live in Atlanta.
